APOD-3.8-Jupiter Unplugged

There were five hand drawn sketches used to combine into this detailed flat map you see above. This sketch was made with colored pencils and a 16-in diameter telescope was used to draw it. Jupiter was observed on different days in November and December 2011 when it was drawn. These images have also been transformed into a motion picture and also includes Galilean Moons moving along their orbits, beginning with Ganymede and Io casting shadows as they glide in front of Jupiter.
